Nelson Cruz hit his 20th homer and Hisashi Iwakuma got the win as the Mariners beat the Pirates 5-2 last night. The teams close out the two game set tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears shutout the Portland Lobos 5-0 in a non-league game last night. Jordan Jones got the win with five innings of two-hit, shutout ball. The Bears host another non-league team, the Portland Stars tonight at 6:35 pm…..Montesano scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to edge Nipp’s Burgers 6-5 last night in Junior Legion. Nipp’s hosts Tenino in 5:30 pm action at Mark Morris HS today…..Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin has agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $46 million, $24 million guaranteed. Baldwin is now locked up through the 2020 season.

The Mariners host the Pirates in a two-game interleague series starting tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm. Both teams have struggled mightily in June. Hisashi Iwakuma pitches against Jonathan Niese…..The Cowlitz Black Bears return home for a non-league game tonight against the Portland Lobos. It’s a 6:35 pm start at Story Field. The Bears host the Portland Stars tomorrow night and then return to WCL action Thursday at home against Wenatchee…..In Senior Legion ball today, Hilander Dental hosts Grays Harbor in a 5 pm DH at Rister Stadium. In Junior Legion, Nipp’s Burgers is at Rochester today at 3 pm…..Registration to attend 13 Seahawks Training Camp practices begins Thursday morning at 10 am on the teams website.

The St. Louis Cardinals hit six solo homers in a an 11-6 win over the Mariners on Sunday. The Cards avoid the sweep after the M’s had won on Friday and Saturday. Seattle takes a day off today before the Pittsburgh Pirates come to Safeco Field for games Tuesday and Wednesday…..The Cowlitz Black Bears also have today off after being swept at Kelowna over the weekend. The Falcons won 2-1 yesterday scoring the winning run on a throwing error. The Bears host non-leaguers Tuesday and Wednesday at Story Field…..Nipp’s Burger dropped three of four in weekend Junior Legion baseball. Meridian downed Nipp’s 6-1 on Sunday……The Timbers rallied from 2-0 down at halftime to beat Houston 3-2 in Portland yesterday. Diego Valeri scored on two penalty kicks to complete the comeback.

James Paxton gets his first win of the season, going six strong innings as the Mariners avoid a series sweep by beating the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-4. Now, it’s up to Boston for a three-game set, with Hisashi Iwakuma going to the hill for Seattle against former M Roenis Elias, KLOG coverage starts at 3 pm…..Making up Wednesday’s rainout, the Cowlitz Black Bears played two against the Kitsap BlueJackets, dropping both ends, 3-1 and 9-6. Now, they head further north to take on the WCL’s hottest team, Victoria, game time is 6:35 pm…..Playing in the Dave Orzel Memorial Baseball Tournament, the Junior Legion team from Nipp’s Burgers got a 6-5 win over Adna. Nipp’s has two games today at Winlock HS, while the Hilander Dental team will play two at Adna HS.

The M’s drop the opener of their ten-day road trip, falling to the Tampa Bay Rays 8-7. The big news out of this game was Taijuan Walker leaving the game in the 4th inning, after some tightened up in his foot. Mariners officials say that they expect him to make his next start…..A couple of long balls helped the Cowlitz Black Bears beat the Kitsap BlueJackets 11-7 last night. Nyles Nygaard cracked a grand slam, while Erek Bolton had a solo shot. Kitsap crept back into it late, but Jacob Worrell and Jake Hawken shut the door with scoreless relief in the 8th and 9th. The second of the three-game series is tonight in Bremerton, first pitch at 6:35 pm…..The San Antonio Stars beat the Seattle Storm 77-70 last night, led by Moriah Jefferson with 19 points. Breanna Stewart led Seattle with 19.

Tyler Naquin golfed a one-handed, two-run homer to right in the 8th inning to give Cleveland a 5-3 win over the Mariners. Robinson Cano had two solo homers for Seattle. The M’s host the Texas Rangers in a big AL West series starting tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm. The M’s made two selections on the first day of the MLB Draft taking Mercer University OF Kyle Lewis and high school 3B Joe Rizzo…..The Cowlitz Black Bears host the Portland Dukes tonight at 6:35 pm. Walla Walla comes in for a three game set over the weekend and Monday…..In Senior Legion ball today, Hilander Dental takes on the Thurston Bandits at 5:30 pm at Olympia HS…..The women’s PGA Championship continues at Sahalee in Sammamish. Brooke Henderson, 18, has the lead after round one.

Taijuan Walker pitched eight scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts in the Mariners 5-0 victory over Cleveland last night. Chris Ianetta hit two homers and drove in four runs. The teams close out the four game set tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears won their first road game of the season with a 7-5 victory at Gresham last night. The Bears have today off before they host the Portland Dukes in a non-leaguer Friday night at Story Field. Walla Walla is in town over the weekend…..In Senior Legion ball, Hilander Dental rallied from 5-0 down to beat the Grays Harbor Giants 8-5. Zach Brown got the win with five shutout innings of relief…..The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship gets underway today at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish. The LPGA top-100 are entered.

Nelson Cruz hit two homers and Wade Miley pitched seven scoreless innings as the Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 7-1 last night. The victory snapped the M’s four game losing streak. The teams play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Gresham GreyWolves defeated the Cowlitz Black Bears 3-1 last night at Mt. Hood College. Seth Rayburn pitched well while taking the loss. The Bears try and avoid a sweep when the teams play again tonight at 7:05 pm…..Hilander Dental defeated the Vancouver Mavericks 5-4 in Senior Legion ball yesterday. Alex McAllister had two hits and two RBI’s. Hilander Dental takes on Grays Harbor at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam tonight at 6 pm…..Sounder Clint Dempsey had a goal and two assists as USA beat Costa Rica 4-0 in Copa America play.

The Mariners have lost four straight after Cleveland beat Seattle 3-1 last night at Safeco Field. Trevor Bauer outdueled James Paxton. The Indians have won six straight heading into tonight’s game, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears dropped their first game of the season, a 9-4 loss at Gresham. It was also the teams first road game after starting the season 4-0. Andy Armstrong hit the first homer of the season for Cowlitz. The Bears and Grey Wolves play again tonight at 7:05 pm…..In senior legion baseball tonight, Hilander Dental takes on Grays Harbor at Olympic Stadium in Hoquiam (6 pm). In junior legion, RBI plays Nipp’s at the Mark Morris Field (6 pm)…..Marshawn Lynch appeared on 60 Minutes Sports to reiterate his retirement. He says he’s done playing football.

The Texas Rangers completed a weekend sweep with a 3-2 win over the Mariners yesterday. The M’s fall three games behind the Rangers in the AL West. Seattle hosts red-hot Cleveland tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Xavier held off Washington 7-5 yesterday at the NCAA baseball regionals. The Huskies are eliminated with the loss. Gonzaga was also ousted with an 8-3 loss to Arizona State. Former LCC pitcher Hunter Wells pitched eight innings with nine strikeouts for the Zags…..The Cowlitz Black Bears completed a three game sweep of Kitsap with an 8-4 victory on Sunday. The Bears take to the road for the first time with a game at Gresham tonight at 6:35 pm…..In Senior Legion, Vancouver Mavs swept Hilander Dental 3-2 and 8-7. In Junior Legion, Nipp’s beat the Trappers 15-5.
