KLOG Wednesday Sports

The Mariners hit five straight doubles in the sixth inning and went on to beat the Astros 13-2 last night. The M’s are looking for a sweep against Houston in a day game today, KLOG 10 am…..The Cowlitz Black Bears pounded the Portland Stars 13-2 last night. Caleb Hamilton had four hits to lead the way. The Bears host the Portland lobos tonight at 6:35 pm. There will be a fireworks show after the game…..The Lewiston Twins beat the Pacific Tech Senior Legion team 9-4 last night. Pac tech moves on to Twin Falls Idaho for a tourney starting Thursday…..The Longview Babe Ruth 15’s swept the Gorge Hustlers 13-8 and 10-6 last night. The Independence Day tourney begins today with Rightline against the Longview 15’s at 4 pm and JH Kelly versus the Kelso 15’s at 7 pm, both at Rister Stadium.

The Mariners hit four homers to back the pitching of Taijuan Walker as they beat Houston 10-4 last night. Mike Zunino, Michael Saunders, Brad Miller and Robinson Cano went deep. The M’s have won eight of 10 games. The teams play again today, KLOG 4:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears host the Portland Stars tonight in a 6:35 pm start at Story Field…..The Pacific Tech Senior Legion team is playing at Lewiston, Idaho today…..Mark Morris basketball stars Kourtney and Karley Eaton tweeted that they have verbally committed to play college ball at Cal Davis. The twins will play their senior season at MM this upcoming winter…..The Seahawks have been nominated as “Best Team” for the ESPY Awards July 16th. The Hawks compete with the Spurs, Red Sox, Kings and Florida State.

Felix Hernandez spun eight innings of one-hit ball as the Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 3-0 on Sunday. Robinson Cano provided a two run homer. The M’s have called up pitcher Taijuan Walker to start tonight’s game at Houston, KLOG 4:00 pm…..In a game that lasted 4 hours and 25 minutes, the Victoria HarbourCats defeated the Cowlitz Black Bears 9-8. The Bears are off today before hosting the Portland Stars tomorrow night…..The Pacific Tech Senior Legion team went 6-0 to win the Boys of Summer Tourney in Belgrade, Montana. Pac Tech beat the Spokane Blue Devils 11-1 in the final. Riley Johnston was named tourney MVP…..JH Kelly went 1-4 at the Walla Walla Sweets Junior Legion tournament.

The Mariners return to action tonight as they host the Cleveland Indians, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Black Bears also had yesterday off and they will be at home tonight against Victoria. First pitch at Story Field is 6:35 pm…..The Pacific Tech Senior Legion team opened play at the Belgrade, Montana tournament with two wins. Pac Tech beat the Spokane Blue Devils 7-2 and the Rapid City Expos 4-2. Pac Tech plays the Spokane 49’ers at 5 pm today…..With no picks in the NBA Draft last night, Portland made news by offering a max extension offer to LaMarcus Aldridge. The Blazers hope to sign him to a 5-year deal worth $108 million. As for the Draft, Husky guard C.J. Wilcox was selected by the L.A. Clippers with the 28th overall pick.

The Bears take today off before hosting Victoria tomorrow night…..The Pacific Tech Senior Legion team has two games today at the Belgrade Montana tournament which runs through the weekend…..The Blazers have no picks in the first and second rounds of tonight’s NBA Draft in New York.

The Mariners win streak is now at five games after an 8-2 victory over Boston last night. Kyle Seager slugged a three run homer. The M’s look for the sweep over the Red Sox tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears snapped a six game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Kitsap last night. Jake Dahlberg got the win. The teams play the series finale tonight, 6:35 pm at Story Field…..Max Tilton of Mark Morris was a 2A All-State baseball selection, while R.A. Long’s Tanner Hulings and Tanner Ruffe were second team picks…..In Senior Babe Ruth, JH Kelly defeated Rightline Equipment 14-7 yesterday…..The Seahawks will open 12 of their training camp practices to the public from July 25 to August 12. On line registration begins tomorrow morning at 10 am.

Logan Morrison has four hits including two homers to lead the Marinbers to a 12-3 win over the Red Sox. Morrison’s barrage gave Felix Hernandez the run support he’s longed for. The M’s and Sox play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears have dropped six straight after a 12-5 loss to Kitsap last night. The teams play again tonight at Story Field. The Bears released infielder Cooper Mickelson and pitcher Jake Corn…..In Senior Legion, Pacific Tech and Gig Harbor split a pair yesterday. Gig Harbor won the first game 4-3, but Pac Tech took the nightcap 7-3…..In Senior Babe Ruth today, Rightline Equipment takes on JH Kelly in a 5 pm game at the RAL Lumberyard.

The Mariners are back home after sweeping the Royals in Kansas City. Roenis Elias got the win and Mike Zunino’s homer was the game winner as Seattle beat KC 2-1. The Red Sox are in for three starting tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Medford completed a weekend sweep with a 7-6 win over Cowlitz in West Coast League action. The Black Bears host the Kitsap Blue Jackets tonight at 6:35 pm……The Pacific Tech Senior legion team plays a 3 pm DH at Gig Harbor today…..The Washington schools snapped a three-year losing streak by winning the Bud Clary War of the Border with a 57-53 series win this past weekend. The local boys summer basketball teams were led by Kelso going 5-0. Mark Morris was 3-3 and R.A. Long was 2-2. Toutle Lake went 3-0, Toledo 1-3 and Rainier 0-4.
