KLOG Monday Sports

Gonzaga is the lone team from Washington to make the NCAA tournament. The Zags are the #8 seed in the West and will play Oklahoma State Friday in San Diego. The Oregon Ducks are the #7 seed in the West and will play BYU Thursday in Milwaukee…..The Blazers blew an 18 point lead and lost to Golden State 113-112 last night. Portland has lost five of six games. They host the Bucks tomorrow night…..The Mariners beat the Angels 5-3 in spring training action yesterday. The M’s are off today…..After sweeping Skagit Saturday and then getting rained out yesterday, the LCC baseball team has added a DH tonight at home against Everett. The action begins at 5 pm at Story Field…..The Seahawks reportedly have agreed to a three-year, $9.1 million deal with kicker Steven Hauschka.

The Blazers try and snap a four game losing streak when they take on the Pelicans in New Orleans tonight, KLOG 4:05 pm. LaMarcus Aldridge will miss at least two games with a back contusion…..UCLA eliminated Oregon 82-63 at the Pac-12 basketball tournament…..Two more hits for Robinson Cano as the Mariners beat the Diamondbacks 6-3 yesterday. The M’s take on the Rockies tonight…..The LCC baseball team hosts Skagit Valley in a 1 pm double header Saturday, The Devils also host the Linfield JV’s for two Sunday at 12 pm…..Castle Rock is hosting a baseball jamboree and food drive at 10 am Saturday…..The RAL Bullpen Club Auction & Dinner is Saturday at 6 pm at Monticello MS…..Kelso hosts a six team softball jamboree Saturday at 11 am at Tam ’O Shanter Park and Lassie Beach.

Golden Tate is leaving the Seahawks, signing a free-agent deal with the Detroit Lions…..The Blazers have lost four straight after a 103-90 loss at San Antonio. LaMarcus Aldridge left the game with a back injury, but the team is hopeful it won’t be a long term situation…..Utah beat Washington 67-61 at the Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament, knocking the Huskies out. WSU is also done after a 74-63 loss to Stanford. Oregon advanced to play UCLA today after beating Oregon State 88-74…..The Mariners scored three runs in the 9th and one in the 10th to rally for an 8-7 win over the Cubs. Robinson Cano hit two doubles and is now hitting .632 this spring. The M’s take on the Diamondbacks today. The game will be broadcast on KLOG at 6:55 pm.

The Blazers will try and snap a three game losing streak when they play in San Antonio tonight, KLOG 5:35 pm. Memphis beat Portland 109-99 last night…..Gonzaga is NCAA tourney bound after taking the WCC title with a 75-64 win over BYU last night…..the Pac-12 tourney begins today with the Huskies against Utah, KLOG 11:30 am. OSU and Oregon play at 6 pm and WSU goes up against Stanford at 8:30 pm…..Breanna Dubois was MVP leading the Red team over the White team in the Lower Columbia Area Senior All Star Game last night. Eli Bannister was MVP as his Red team beat the White squad in the boys game…..The M’s beat the Angels 10-6 yesterday…..George Fox beat LCC 6-5 in 16 innings. The Devils bounced back with a 5-4 win in the 10 inning nightcap.

Michael Bennett has decided to stay with the Seahawks, signing a four-year, $28.5 million free agent deal…..Gonzaga advanced to the WCC tourney championship game with a 70-54 win over St. Mary’s last night…..The Blazers take on the Grizzlies in Memphis tonight, KLOG 4:05 pm…..The 15th Lower Columbia Area Senior All-Star basketball games are tonight at Mark Morris. Hosted by LCC, the girls game is at 6 pm and the boys game at 7:45 pm…..The Mariners lost to the Royals 8-2 and then tied with the Diamondbacks 3-3 yesterday. Today the M’s play the Angels in Tempe…..The LCC baseball team takes a six game winning streak into a home double header this afternoon at Story Field. LCC plays the George Fox JV’s beginning at 3 pm this afternoon.

Houston rallied from 12 down in the 4th quarter to beat the Trail Blazers 118-113 in OT. The Blazers play at Memphis tomorrow night…..It was championship game disappointment for the girls of Mark Morris and Toutle Lake. W.F. West beat the Monarchs in the 2A final and Colfax handed the Ducks their only loss…..The LCC baseball team swept Lane with three straight wins Friday and Saturday. The Devils have won six straight as they host George Fox in a 3 pm DH tomorrow…..The LCC softball team opened the season by taking 3 of 4 games in Lacey…..Haley Hibbs had 14 and Arinesha Smith 11 as the LCC players led the West over the South 74-57 in the NWAACC women’s All-Star Game…..The Longview World Series Committee meets at 7 pm tonight at LCC Student Center.

The Mark Morris girls move into the semi-finals of the 2A state tournament after an 80-60 win over White River. Ashley Coons had 30 points. MM plays Ellensburg at 5:30 pm. Pullman beat the Mm boys 52-40. The Monarchs play a loser out game with White River at 12:15 pm…..In 1A, Seattle Academy beat Toledo 46-26. The Cashmere girls downed Kalama 59-23. The Chinooks are playing Granger at 12:15 pm…..In 1B, the Toutle Lake girls beat Desales 44-33. The Ducks play the semi-final at 3:45 pm. Shorewood Christian beat the Three Rivers boys 54-48…..The Blazers play the Mavericks today, KLOG 4:35 pm…..The LCC baseball team hosts Lane in a 4 pm Dh today and 12 pm DH Saturday…..The LCC softball team opens the season with six games in Lacey starting at 3pm today.

The WIAA State tournaments are underway. The defending champion Mark Morris girls play White River at 2 pm in the 2A tourney in Yakima. The Mark Morris boys take on Pullman in a 5:30 pm game, also at the Yakima Sun Dome…..The Trail Blazers blasted the Atlanta Hawks 102-78 last night. Portland begins a road trip at Dallas tomorrow night…..The Huskies host UCLA tonight, KLOG 5:30 pm. WSU is at home against USC. Last night Arizona beat Oregon State 74-69. Longview native Brady Bergeson coached Western Oregon to a 94-88 upset of Alaska-Anchorage in the men’s GNAC playoffs…..Cleveland scored seven runs in the last three innings to beat the Mariners 8-5 yesterday. The M’s play the White Sox at Camelback Ranch today.

The Lower Columbia College women’s basketball team ended up 6th in the NWAACC this year. The Devils lost to Clark 80-69 yesterday in the 5th/6th game. Christian Carlson had 17 points in her final LCC game. Columbia Basin beat Umpqua for the women’s title while Portland won the men’s title with a victory over Pierce…..The Portland Trail Blazers host the Atlanta Hawks tonight, KLOG 6:35 pm…..Felix Hernandez pitched two scoreless inning’s in his spring debit as the Mariners beat the Dodgers 4-1. Seattle plays Cleveland today in Peoria…..Today is travel day for the local prep hoops teams at the State tournaments in Yakima and Spokane…..Former Seahawk Brandon Browner says he has been reinstated by the NFL after his suspension for substance abuse violations.

Arinesha Smith sparked a rally with just over three minutes left in the game, leading the LCC Lady Devils from seven points down to beat Spokane 67-66 at the NWAACC Basketball Tourney. The win moves LCC into the 5th-6th place game, where they will take on the Clark Penguins, coverage on The Wave starts at 11:50 am…..Wesley Johnson dunked an alley-oop inbounds pass with 6.9 seconds left, lifting the L. A. Lakers to a 107-106 win over the Blazers, snapping Portland’s five-game winning streak. The Blazers have tonight off, then Atlanta comes in tomorrow night…..The M’s won a pair of split-squad games yesterday, 8-1 over Colorado and 6-5 over Cincinnati. Seattle travels to Glendale today to play the Dodgers, where Felix Hernandez will have his first start of the season.
