The Texas Rangers completed a weekend sweep with a 3-2 win over the Mariners yesterday. The M’s fall three games behind the Rangers in the AL West. Seattle hosts red-hot Cleveland tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Xavier held off Washington 7-5 yesterday at the NCAA baseball regionals. The Huskies are eliminated with the loss. Gonzaga was also ousted with an 8-3 loss to Arizona State. Former LCC pitcher Hunter Wells pitched eight innings with nine strikeouts for the Zags…..The Cowlitz Black Bears completed a three game sweep of Kitsap with an 8-4 victory on Sunday. The Bears take to the road for the first time with a game at Gresham tonight at 6:35 pm…..In Senior Legion, Vancouver Mavs swept Hilander Dental 3-2 and 8-7. In Junior Legion, Nipp’s beat the Trappers 15-5.

The Mariners hit five homers, two by Seth Smith, in a 16-4 spanking of the San Diego Padres. The teams have traveled to San Diego for a game tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm. Felix Hernandez is on the mound for Seattle…..The Rainier HS softball team advanced to the State 3A championship game for the fourth straight year after a 6-4 win over Scio yesterday. The Columbians and Dayton meet for the title Friday at 4 pm at OSU in Corvallis…..Stanfield/Echo downed the Rainier baseball team 10-1 in the semi-finals yesterday. Rainier ends a great year at 21-5…..The 39th Senior All-Star baseball feeder games are today at Centralia. The DH begins at 4 pm with players from 23 schools on hand…..In MLS tonight, San Jose visits the Timbers (7:30pm) and the Sounders at DC United (5pm).

The Mariners defeated the Padres 9-3 yesterday as Kyle Seager’s two-run homer broke a 2-2 tie in the 6th inning. The M’s and Padres play again today, KLOG 11:30 am…..Washington and Gonzaga made the field for the NCAA baseball tournament. The Huskies play in the Nashville Regional while the Zags are at the Fort Worth Regional. Oregon State did not make the tournament…..Yakima Valley beat Everett 5-2 to win the NWAC baseball crown at Story Field yesterday. It’s the Yaks first title since 1983. LCC ended up 4th in the tournament…..Vincent Murphy of Puyallup won the Cowlitz County Amateur golf tournament in a three-hole playoff with Matt Hartley…..In case you missed it, Toledo won the State 2B baseball title while Toutle Lake won the 2B softball championship.

Kade Kryzsko pitched seven shutout innings to lead Lower Columbia to a 9-0 victory over Bellevue in the opening round of the NWAC baseball championships at Story Field. The Devils advance to play Pierce at 7:35 pm tonight…..The Mariners and Felix Hernandez take on the Minnesota Twins tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Action is underway at the State softball tournament. Kelso is playing at the 3A in Lacey and R.A. Long is at the 2A in Selah. Rainier is hosting Amity in the Oregon 3A today at 5 pm…..The Rainier baseball team hosts Glide in the Oregon 3A state today at 3:30 pm…..R.A. Long’s Ethan Sterkel took 2nd place in the long jump at the State 2A track meet. Trent Beavers of Kelso was 3rd in the 3A pole vault and Kirsten Mury of Kelso was 3rd in the javelin.

Leonys Martin hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 9th to give the Mariners a 6-5 win over the Oakland A’s. Robinson Cano’s two-run shot in the 8th set up Martin’s heroics. The M’s and A’s play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..On the eve of the NWAC Baseball Championships at LCC, the coaches for the final 8 will take part in a webcast interview show tonight at 6 pm on the website…..Austin White of Mark Morris fired a two-over 74 at the State 2A golf tournament, good for second place. Troy Parrish of R.A. Long shot an 84 and made the cut to today’s second round…..Gonzaga’s Przemek Karnowski has been granted a final year of eligibility on a medical redshirt after back surgery. He played in five games will be eligible to return next season.

The Kelso Lassies won three straight games yesterday to qualify for the State 3A softball tournament. Kelso beat Hazen 7-0, downed Auburn-Riverside 4-1 and defeated Central Kitsap 8-0. Megan Holt got two of the victories. Kelso will open State 3A play Friday at the RAC Fields in Lacey…..Rich Hill went eight shutout innings to lead the Oakland A’s to a 5-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. The teams play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The LCC baseball team has been working hard as baseball players and groundskeepers as they are getting ready for the start of the NWAC Baseball Championships Thursday at Story Field. The defending champs have the additional chores that make hosting the tournament even more difficult. The Red Devils open play Thursday night at 7:35 pm.

The Mariners completed a three game sweep in Cincinnati with a 5-4 win over the Reds on Sunday. Leonys Martin had four hits to lead the way. The M’s open a home stand against the Oakland A’s tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Kelso baseball team was eliminated in the 3A playoffs with a 3-1 loss to Arlington on Sunday…..The Kelso Lassies finally resume 3A Bi-District plat with a must win game against Hazen today at 11:00 am in Tacoma…..The LCC softball team took 5th place at the 16-team NWAC Championship tourney in Portland. Bellevue eliminated the Devils 11-4 yesterday…..The field is set for Thursday’s opening day of the NWAC Baseball Championships at LCC. The defending champion Red Devils will play Bellevue at 7:35 pm Thursday night at Story Field.

The Mariners beat the Orioles 7-4 in Baltimore yesterday. Adam Lind’s three-run homer was the key hit. The M’s begin a three game set at Cincinnati today, KLOG 3:00 pm…..The Lower Columbia softball team has begun NWAC Championship play today in Portland. The action continues through Monday…..The Kelso Lassies open 3A Bi-District softball today with a 12 pm game against Capital at Sprinker Fields in Tacoma. R.A. Long’s opening 2A District game with Washougal was rained out yesterday and rescheduled for today at 4 pm in Centralia…..The Kelso baseball team begins 3A State action tomorrow against Arlington at Mount Vernon HS, KLOG 9:55 am…..The Kelso track teams begin 3A Bi-District today in Sumner. The 2A District track meet with RAL and MM is at Centralia today.

The Orioles beat the Mariners 5-2 last night as former Mariner Chris Tillman was the winning pitcher. The M’s and O’s are playing a day game today, KLOG 8:30 am…..The R.A. Long softball team begins 2A District play this afternoon in Centralia. The Jills play Washougal at 4 pm…..Aunica Rybar of Mark Morris took fifth at the girls 2A golf District at Mint Valley. Rybar qualifies for State and she’ll be joined by RAL duo Josie Nickerson and Sierra Norris who tied at 15th place…..Blazer assistant coach Jay Triano is leaving the team to become the lead assistant for the Phoenix Suns…..The Kelso baseball team opens the State 3A tournament in Mt. Vernon Saturday against Arlington, KLOG 9:55 am. The venue has been changed from Skagit Valley College to Mt. Vernon HS.

Anacortes broke up a scoreless duel with three late goals to defeat R.A. Long 3-0 in the 2A State boys soccer playoffs. The Jacks fine season ends at 13-6-1…..The top 31 made the cut to today’s final round of the 2A girls golf District at Mint Valley. Aunica Rybar of MM was the best local score of 86, good for second place…..The Mariners blasted the Orioles 10-0 last night as Nelson Cruz led the way with a homer and five RBI’s. The M’s and O’s play again today at Camden Yards, KLOG 3:00 pm…..The LCC softball team was seeded sixth into the 16-team NWAC Championships. The Devils play Everett in the first round Friday at 10 am. The tourney is at Delta Park in Portland.
