The Astros beat the Mariners 5-2 last night. Seattle fails to gain any ground in the Wild Card race, now a half game behind Detroit. The M’s have a day off before hosting Oakland in a key series this weekend…..The Mark Morris football team plays its home opener tonight as they take on Columbia River in a 7 pm start at Longview Memorial, FM 105.5 Cookin Country…..Mt. Hood defeated Lower Columbia 3-0 in college volleyball last night…..In prep volleyball, Kalama swept past Toutle Lake 3-0. Tonight, Kelso is at Mt. View, Woodland at Kalama and Rainier at Clatskanie…..The GSHL girls swimming relays are today at Gaither Pool in Kelso, 4 pm…..In boys golf today, Mt. View takes on Kelso at Three Rivers and Centralia plays R.A. Long at Mint Valley.

The Astros scored a run in the top of the 9th inning to beat the Mariners 2-1 last night. The Tigers and A’s also won so Seattle is now a half-game out of the final AL Wild Card spot. Hishashi Iwakuma pitches for the M’s tonight against Houston, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Kelso’s Trevor May held Cleveland to two runs on five hits over five innings as his Twins won 4-3. It was May’s second MLB victory…..Clackamas beat LCC in volleyball last night. The Devils host Mt. Hood tonight at 6 pm at MM…..In prep volleyball, RAL swept past Evergreen 3-0, MM outlasted Mt. View 3-2 and Ridgefield beat Kelso 3-0…..Olympic roughed up LCC 8-0 in soccer…..In prep soccer, RAL shutout Castle Rock 2-0, Kelso beat Battle Ground 3-1 and Maddie Early had three goals in MM’s 6-0 win over Centralia.

Brad Miller drove in three runs to lead the Mariners to a 4-1 win over Houston last night. The M’s and Astros play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..R.A. Long defeated Kelso 3-1 in prep volleyball last night. Sarah Luedke led the Jills with 12 kills. Tonight, RAL is at Evergreen, Battle Ground visits Kelso and Mt. View is at Mark Morris…..The LCC volleyball team visits Clackamas tonight…..The LCC women’s soccer team is at Olympic today at 2 pm…..In girls prep soccer today, Battle Ground is at Kelso (4pm), Castle Rock at RAL (6pm) and MM at Centralia (7pm)…..The Mm boys tennis team blanked Fort Vancouver 6-0 and Prairie defeated RAL 4-2…..Kelso, RAL and Woodland are all competing in the Jeff Hudson Invitational golf tournament at Tri-Mountain today.

The Texas Rangers snapped an eight game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over the Mariners Sunday. The M’s are home tonight with Felix Hernandez on the mound against Houston, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Seahawks were off yesterday as the rest of the NFL got underway. The Hawks will watch the Monday Night Football game tonight between San Diego and Arizona because the Hawks are at the Chargers next Sunday…..The Oregon Ducks have jumped ahead of Alabama into #2 in the AP College Football Poll after a big win over Michigan State. Despite a narrow win over Eastern Washington, the Huskies have dropped out of the poll…..The R.A. Long volleyball team hosts Kelso at 7 pm tonight…..In boys tennis today, Prairie is at RAL and Fort Vancouver is at Mark Morris.

The Seahawks opened the NFL season with style, downing the Green Bay Packers 36-16. Marshawn Lynch rushed for 110 yards and two TD’s…..WSU takes on Nevada in Reno tonight. The Huskies host Eastern Washington tomorrow, KLOG 11:00 am…..Prep football gets underway tonight with Kelso hosting Mark Morris, on both 101.5 FM The Wave and 105.5 KUKN. R.A. Long opens at Columbia River tonight…..The Mariners beat Texas 10-2 last night. The teams play again today, KLOG 4:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears have hired LCC assistant Grady Tweit as their new head coach…..NCAA cross country comes to Kelso tomorrow morning as Kelso native Jake Stewart brings his Illinois Fighting Illini to run against the Portland Pilots, 10 am at Joe Stewart Track and Tam O’Shanter Park.

The Seahawks take on the Green Bay Packers in a 5:30 kickoff at Century Link…..Kyle Seager and Corey Hart hit back to back homers in the 7th inning to give the Mariners a 2-1 win over Oakland. Felix Hernandez outdueled Jon Lester. The M’s are a half game out of the final AL Wildcard spot as they play at Texas today, KLOG 4:00 pm…..Kelso’s Trevor May went five innings and got his first Major League win as the Twins beat the White Sox 11-4…..Linn Benton defeated Lower Columbia 3-0 in college volleyball last night…..In prep golf, Union (140) beat Camas (157) and Kelso (169) at Three Rivers. Woodland hosts the Beaver Cup jamboree at Lewis River today including MM.

The Seattle Mariners held off the Oakland A’s 6-5 last night. James Paxton got the win and Fernando Rodney struggled to collect his 40th save. The M’s and A’s are playing a day game today, KLOG 11:30 am. Felix Hernandez is pitching against Jon Lester…..The LCC volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 win over Shoreline yesterday. Kayla Keane led the way with 29 assists and five aces in her first college match. The Devils host Linn Benton in a 6 pm match tonight at the MM Gym…..The Kelso boys golf team takes on Camas and Union in a 3:30 pm match at Three Rivers…..The NFL season gets underway tomorrow afternoon as the Seattle Seahawks host the Green Bay Packers in a 5:30 pm game at Century Link Field. Expect major traffic issues around the stadium.

The Oakland A’s scored five runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Mariners 6-1. The A;s and M’s play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Washington Huskies will start Cyler Miles at QB this Saturday at home against Eastern Washington. Jeff Lindquist and the UW offense struggled in the Huskies 17-16 win over Hawaii on Saturday…..The Seahawks waived Phil Bates and added Bryan Walters to the roster. The Hawks are getting ready for the NFL season opener Thursday afternoon against the Green Bay Packers. Expect big traffic problems around Century Link Field…..The Lower Columbia College volleyball team opens the season today. The Devils host Shoreline in a 5 pm match at the Mark Morris Gym. LCC has three returners and nine new freshman this season.

Broomall-Newtown, PA won the Babe Ruth World Series with a 12-3 victory over Lumber River, NC last night. Scott Hahn pitched the victory and was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player. Yancy Bird of Kelso was a 1st team All World Series selection…..The Mariners return to action tonight as they host the Washington Nationals, KLOG 6:00 pm. Felix Hernandez pitches tonight…..The Seahawks closed out the pre-season with a 41-31 loss at Oakland…..The WSU football team dropped with season opener with a 41-38 loss to Rutgers. The Huskies open the season with a game at Hawaii tomorrow, 6:30 pm on 101.5 FM The Wave…..Football Jamborees tonight include Kelso at Yelm and R.A. Long at St. Helens…..The LCC soccer team hosts Whatcom at 12 pm Saturday.

There will be free admission for the championship game of the Babe Ruth World Series tonight at Story Field, KLOG 7:00 pm. Lumber River NC beat Torrance CA 4-3 and Broomall-Newtown, PA defeated Tri-County, TX 7-3 in last night’s semi-finals. The Longview World Series Committee is offering the free admission as thanks to the community and to encourage a good crowd for the visiting kids…..The Rangers pummeled the Mariners 12-4 yesterday. The M’s have today off…..The WSU Cougars open the college football season by hosting Rutgers at Century Link in Seattle tonight…..The Seahawks close out the pre-season with a game at Oakland tonight…..The LCC women’s soccer team tied Grays Harbor 3-3 last night. The Devils host Whatcom at 12 pm Saturday.
