KLOG Monday Sports

The Pistons handed Portland a third straight loss 123-103 last night. The Blazers return home to play the Wizards tomorrow night…..Gonzaga and BYU meet in the WCC semi-finals tonight in Las Vegas…..Columbia Basin upset the LCC men 63-53 Saturday in the NWAC Championships first round. The Devils season ends at 20-9. The LCC women advanced to the Final 8 with a 62-48 victory over Chemeketa. The Devils play Spokane Thursday at 12 pm in Everett…..Jessica Gibson hit .600 with two homers to lead the LCC softball team to a 3-1 record at the season opening tourney in Lacey…..The LCC baseball team opened the season with six straight wins over the weekend. The Devils took five straight from Skagit Valley and then downed Linn Benton 5-2 yesterday.

The Mark Morris girls will try and stay alive at the 2A Final 8 when they play Black Hills today, FM 101.5 The Wave at 10:15 am. Ellensburg beat MM 36-23 yesterday. Also, the Kalama boys beat Cashmere to advance to the semi-finals against Freeman at 3:45 pm. The Wahkiakum girls also beat Colfax to advance to a semi-final versus Napavine at 3:45 pm…..The LCC hoops teams are ready for home playoff games tomorrow with the women at 3 pm and the men at 5 pm…..The Blazers are at Toronto tonight, KLOG 3:35 pm…..The Mariners beat San Diego 6-5 yesterday. The M’s and Brewers play today, KLOG 12:00 pm…..The LCC baseball team hosts Skagit Valley at 4 pm today. The teams will play two at 1 pm tomorrow. There are three games at Story Field Sunday also.

The Boston Celtics got 30 points from former UW star Isaiah Thomas in a 116-93 win over Portland. The Blazers play at Toronto tomorrow…..Andrew Andrews scored 47 points to lead the Huskies over WSU 99-91 last night…..The WIAA State Final-8 is underway in Yakima and Spokane. The Mark Morris girls play Ellensburg at 12:15 pm today, 12:00 pm on FM 101.5 The Wave. The Woodland boys take on Clarkston in the 2A tourney at 3:45 pm……The Mariners opened Spring Training with a 7-0 victory over San Diego. Chris Iannetta, Franklin Gutierrez and Stefan Romero hit homers and seven Mariner pitchers combined for the shutout. The M’s and Padres play again today, KLOG 12:00 pm.

The Trail Blazers have won six straight road games after a 104-85 win at New York last night. Damian Lillard had 30 and CJ McCollum had 25. Portland is at Boston later today, KLOG 3:35 pm…..The Cougars visit the Huskies in Pac-12 men’s action tonight. UW has lost six of seven and WSU has dropped 15 straight…..Today is send off ay for the local teams heading to the WIAA State hoop tournaments. There will be a send-off for the Mark Morris girls at 1:15 pm this afternoon…..The Mariners open Spring Training action today as they take on the Padres in Peoria, KLOG 12:00 pm…..The Seahawks did not use a franchise tag on any of the 17 free agents on their roster. The free agency period begins next week.

The Trail Blazers are in New York City to play the Knicks later today, KLOG 3:35 pm…..The LCC women’s basketball team now has an opponent for Saturday’s NWAC playoff game. Last night in Salem, Chemeketa eliminated Clark 57-53. Chemeketa will take on the Red Devil women at 3 pm Saturday at Myklebust Gym. The men’s playoff between LCC and Columbia Basin will follow at 5 pm. Tickets are on sale at the LCC Student Center from 8 am to 4 pm through Friday…..The Seattle Mariners spring training schedule begins tomorrow in Peoria with the annual charity game against the Padres, KLOG 12:00 pm. James Paxton will start for the M’s.

The Blazers have opened a six game road trip 2-0 after a 111-102 win at Indiana last night. Damian Lillard had 33 to lead Portland to an eighth win in nine outings. The Blazers are at New York tomorrow…..Oregon regained first place in the Pac-12 with an 86-73 win over Washington. Oregon State beat WSU 69-49…..The LCC women’s team beat South Puget Sound 79-55 to capture a share of the West title. SPSCC downed the West champion Red Devil men 70-67. Both LCC teams host a NWAC Regional playoff Saturday with the women at 3 pm and the men at 5 pm…..The draws are out for the WIAA Final Eight. The Mark Morris girls play Ellensburg at 12:15 pm Thursday at the SunDome. The Woodland boys take on Clarkston at 3:45 pm Thursday, also in Yakima.

The Houston Rockets rallied from 21 down to beat Portland 119-105 last night, snapping the Blazers six game win streak. Portland is at Chicago tomorrow, KLOG 4:05 pm…..Gonzaga beat San Diego 82-60 last night. The Zags can clinch at least a share of the WCC title with a win at BYU tomorrow night…..The LCC basketball teams host South Puget Sound tomorrow with the women’s game at 5 pm and the men’s game at 7 pm…..The WIAA Regionals begin tonight with the Woodland boys against North Kitsap, 8 pm at Mt. Tahoma HS. The Toutle Lake girls play Ilwaco at 6 pm at Chehalis. The Mark Morris teams play back to back at Bellevue College tomorrow. The MM boys against Ellensburg at 12 pm and the MM girls against Toppenish at 2 pm, both on FM 101.5 The Wave at 11:45 am.

Both LCC teams rallied in the second half to win games at Grays Harbor last night. The Red Devil men won the West title outright with an 87-69 victory and the LCC women remained tied for first with a 74-48 win. Both teams host South Puget Sound on Saturday before they host NWAC Regional Playoff games Saturday March 5th…..Stephen Thompson hit a three at the buzzer to give Oregon State an 82-81 win over Washington, the Dawgs fifth loss in six games. Oregon is now in first place after a 76-62 win over WSU and an Arizona loss at Colorado…..The Trail Blazers host the Houston Rockets tonight, KLOG 6:05 pm. Portland has won six straight…..Vancouver defeated the Portland Timbers 2-0 in MLS pre-season action last night.

The Portland Trail Blazers got 34 points each from Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum in a 112-104 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. The Blazers have won six straight and 15 of the last 18. Houston comes to Portland tomorrow night…..The LCC Red Devils take on Grays Harbor in Aberdeen tonight. The women’s game begins at 6 pm and the men’s game is at 8 pm, both on KLOG at 5:55 pm…..The Washington Huskies are in Corvallis to play Oregon State tonight while the WSU Cougars take on the Oregon Ducks in Eugene…..The Sounders got two goals from Clint Dempsey but settled for a 2-2 tie with Club America in CONCACAF play. Meanwhile, the Portland Timbers host the Vancouver Whitecaps in a pre-season match tonight at 7:30 pm. Chicago plays Minnesota in another game at 5 pm.

The red hot Trail Blazers play host the Brooklyn Nets tonight, KLOG 6:05 pm. Portland has won nine of 11 games to elevate into the 7th Western Conference playoff position…..The Mark Morris basketball teams spent a day of preparation for opponents Selah and Clarkston. The WIAA yesterday altered the brackets and changed the MM draws. It will be the Monarchs boys against Ellensburg and the MM girls against Toppenish instead. The games will still be played Saturday afternoon at Bellevue College with the boys at 12 pm and the girls at 2 pm…..The Mariners have a voluntary position player workout session in Peoria today before mandatory workouts begin tomorrow…..Sign ups for the Roots 3-on-3 basketball tournament March 11th at LCC are underway at rootsbasketball.com.
