Officials with Cowlitz County say that they’re coming up against some deadlines in regard to the Headquarters Landfill, and that they plan to have a final decision on a permit for that facility dome within the next two months. At last night’s public hearing on the permit application, Environmental Health Manager Chris Bischoff says that they’ll decide before Halloween…landfill…Bischoff says that they have a deadline of November 5th to act on this application; he also says that the landfill on Tennant Way will be full by the end of November, so another option for disposal of local garbage is necessary, one way or the other. Last night’s hearing was lightly attended, with only about a dozen members of the public on hand. Only eight spoke, all raising concerns about the landfill and its impacts on Silver Lake and the area surrounding the facility. Public comments on the county’s permit application are being accepted until 5 pm on Tuesday, September 10th. Other information on the Final Environmental Impact Statement and the permit application for the Headquarters Landfill is available on the Cowlitz County website, or by calling County Building and Planning at 577-3052.
